York was the first Community Furniture Store to open back in 1988 and over the years it’s helped tens of thousands of people in the City of York and surrounding areas to improve their homes through affordable reused furniture, electrical appliances and paint. The York store is the largest of the three Community Furniture Stores, with over 5,000 square foot of warehouse space and stock that changes on a daily basis.
Over the last three decades York CFS has worked hard to build a relationship with the community and has become the go-to reuse store in York for buying and donating home furnishings. We work closely with City of York Council to deliver the City’s Financial Assistance Scheme, ensuring that those most in need are able to create a comfortable new home when they’re housed by the local authority.
As well as the regularly changing donated furniture, we stock a full range of new household white goods and bedroom furniture available for anyone to buy. We are also part of the Community RePaint Network, putting reuseable paint that would otherwise go to waste back into use at a fixed price per litre whatever the type or brand.
The store is kindly supported by the City of York Council for its work reducing waste and supporting new tenants to setup home. We are also grateful for the support of The National Lottery Community Fund, the Charities Aid Foundation and the Social Enterprise Foundation to keep us working through the lockdown and reopening period
