FLOODS

Helping flood victims in York & North Yorkshire

We are still providing essential furniture and other items to households affected by the Boxing Day floods, working closely with the Two Ridings Community Foundation and local Councils.

Generous donations of furniture came from local companies and individuals, and from further afield including from London, Bedford and Wiltshire. The Raylor Centre and Pickfords kindly donated temporary use of storage space.

Some items are currently available free of charge to help people:
• in temporary accommodation needing furniture
• remaining in their homes whilst repair work is carried out

Households returning to their homes after repair work may qualify for some free items.

Some people in these circumstances may qualify for grants from the York Flood Appeal Fund or the North Yorkshire Flood Appeal Fund, which will enable us to supply new kitchen appliances and beds, and later carpets and furniture if required.

These funds are both administered by the Two Ridings Community Foundation.  To apply:
For City of York area – http://www.trcf.org.uk/grant/york-flood-appeal-fund/
For Tadcaster & elsewhere in North Yorkshire http://www.trcf.org.uk/grant/northyorks-flood-appeal-fund/
Or e-mail office@trcf.org.uk or ring 01904 435277 for further help.

For contact details and opening hours for the Community Furniture Stores click on York, Selby and Scarborough.

We have a number of sofas available to any households affected by the floods. These are free to households qualifying for the above grants and to other households on payment of a handling and delivery charge.

While helping those affected by the floods, the Community Furniture Stores have continued our usual work.

Our Stores are open to all, with discounted prices to low income customers.  We do not receive any substantial, regular revenue grant-funding, so the proceeds of sales are essential to cover running costs and maintain our services to local people who are vulnerable, disadvantaged or have limited means.

Donated items are collected free of charge. We are grateful for the continuing support of local people.
