Community Furniture Stores prevent 450 tonnes of waste

Data for 2018/19 shows that in the last 12 months the Community Furniture Stores in York, Scarborough and Selby reused over 19,500 items preventing almost 450 tonnes of good quality furniture going to waste.  This represents an increase of 10% over the total reused in 2017/18 and includes over 20 tonnes of electrical items.  The Stores also reused over 5,000 litres of unwanted paint.

Around 13,000 households bought goods from the Stores including more than 4,900 low income households who benefited from discounted prices.   Reused items are sold at 25% discount to people on a low income.
